ABOUT US
FUND
FOR THE CITY OF NEW YORK
The Fund for the City of New York is an independent operating foundation
established by the Ford Foundation in 1968. Its mandate is to improve
the quality of life in New York City, be responsive to the city's problems
and seek opportunities to improve the performance of its government
and nonprofit organizations. The Fund has a long history of introducing
innovative programs and technology to these two sectors and works with
many other places in this country and around the world when there is
an interest in adapting the Fund's innovations.

THE CENTER ON MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT PERFORMANCE
The Fund's Center on Municipal Government Performance (CMGP) is creating
new measures of government performance that reflect the public's
point of view. The new measures allow and encourage government and
the public to communicate with one another about government performance,
using data they both can trust. CMGP started its work by listening to
focus groups of diverse residents and business owners talk about how
they rate the wide range of services delivered by city government. CMGP
has been building the voices of the public into the performance measurement
process since 1995. The Center on Municipal Government Performance is supported by a
grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
